The Mawson’s Huts Foundation was established as a not-for-profit charity in 1996 to conduct conservation work on the Mawson’s Huts Historic Site at Cape Denison in Antarctica. It does this to support the Australian Antarctic Division’s management of the site. The Foundation has funded and organised 14 major expeditions to Cape Denison to conserve this irreplaceable piece of Australia’s Antarctic history.
In 2013, the Foundation opened the Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum, an exact reproduction of the historic buildings at Cape Denison, located on the Hobart waterfront less than 200 meters from where Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition departed in 1911.
Authentic in every detail, the Replica Museum was crafted by heritage carpenters who worked directly on the conservation of the original huts in Antarctica. Using photographs, precise measurements and Baltic Pine cladding and flooring sourced from the same Scandinavian region as the original materials, the replica allows visitors to step back in time and experience firsthand the foresight, endurance and resilience of Australia’s early Antarctic explorers.
This year’s raffle is a unique opportunity to support the ongoing preservation of this important history. Part of the proceeds will directly fund a short 3-day expedition this summer and contribute to a larger conservation expedition anticipated for 2025-26, ensuring that the legacy of Mawson’s Huts continues to inspire future generations.

DOVE CANYON ADVENTURE FOR 2
VALUE $620
Dove Canyon is Tassie adventure at its best. We walk through pristine rain forest to this stunning canyon. After abseiling in, we spend the day walking and floating through the canyon and doing what we have to do to navigate the obstacles we find along the way. The main obstacles are six waterfalls which we abseil, jump or slide off!
One of the highlights is the Laundry Chute – a ten-metre-high natural slide that shoots you out of a large cave (which we call The Pit) into a big open pool. Very unique and highly exhilarating.
This is a committing trip – once you’re in, there’s only one way out and there is no way to walk around any of the waterfalls. Having said that, most of our clients have no canyoning experience, and it doesn’t require any particular set of skills as such – just and ability to swim and a sense of adventure.
